About the Workshop

You’ve invested a lot to earn your Master’s degree, and now it’s time to find a job where you will be paid for your education and training. In this workshop, Dr. L. Maren Wood will help participants develop strategies for identifying and communicating their value during their job search. You’ll learn strategies to identify what employers are looking for in job candidates, and how to clearly and confidently explain your skills and value at various stages of the job search. 

After attending this workshop, you’ll be able to: 

  • Identify why networking is important for job search success.
  • Apply strategies to effectively communicate value and skills to employers.
  • Design a compelling LinkedIn profile and elevator pitch.

  • Where and when? This is an in-person workshop on November 4th from 1-2pm in Mayo Memorial Room  3-100   If you can not, or prefer not to attend in-person, this session will be recorded and distributed.  Please register using the above link to receive the recording.

L. Maren Wood, PhD is Founder of Beyond the Professoriate, a mission driven organization that empowers PhDs to consider the range of career options available to them in the creative economy. Since 2012, Dr. Wood has dedicated her career to supporting universities in preparing graduate students and PhDs for meaningful careers in academia and beyond. 

Her expertise has been featured in Inside Higher Ed, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and peer reviewed books. She also serves as external advisor on committees such as the Council of Graduate Schools Humanities Advisory Committee and the ETS Graduate Education Advisory Council, and is regularly sought as a keynote speaker.
