Grant Mechanisms for Postdoctoral Training Programs (NIH):

Timeline for NIH Training Programs

A T32 can support graduate students in Ph.D. programs or postdoctorates, and an R25 can be used to support graduate students (at the Ph.D. level), postdoctoral fellows, and early-stage faculty (within eight years of their first faculty appointment). Your department can also use diversity supplements to support eligible postdocs from under-represented groups in the U.S.

K series awards are designed to help postdocs become independent scientists and provide opportunities for research and publishing.  These types of awards may be important in some universities for obtaining faculty positions. For more information see  Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01), Career Transition Award (K22), Mentored Quantitative Research Development Award (K25).
