What is the Fulbright U.S. Student Program? 

The purpose of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program is to increase mutual understanding between people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. Applications are available on the Fulbright Fellowship website. What are the key deadlines and procedures for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program?

Phase 1: Internal Feedback Cycles (Optional)
To receive feedback on your application materials from the University of Minnesota Graduate Fulbright Program Advisors, please submit your drafts using this Google Form.

  • June 12, 2026 | 1st Feedback Review Deadline 
  • July 10, 2026 | 2nd Feedback Review Deadline 
     

Phase 2: Campus Review & Interviews (Encouraged)
To receive a formal University of Minnesota endorsement and feedback from the Fulbright Faculty Committee, you must submit your application through the Official Fulbright Portal. When submitting your application, ensure you click "Ready for Campus Review." After your submission, your application will be "unlocked," allowing you to make final revisions based on committee feedback before the national deadline.

  • August 26, 2026 at 11:59 PM CT | Campus Review Deadline
  • September 2026 | Campus Interviews 
    • Following the campus deadline, our office will reach out to schedule your interview for September. During the interview, the committee provides oral feedback. Afterward, they will complete the Campus Committee Evaluation (CCE) form, which OGFA uploads to your final application.
       

Phase 3: National Competition (Mandatory)
To be considered for an award by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, you must perform your final submission through the Official Fulbright Portal.

Who Is Eligible? 

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have earned a Bachelor's degree prior to their participation in the program. An application may be made to only one country.
