Marie Monter

Marie Monter joins the Graduate School as Associate Director, Graduate Fellowships & Awards

After an extensive search, the Graduate School is pleased to announce that Marie Monter, M.Ed., will join the Graduate School as Associate Director, Graduate Fellowships & Awards starting January 31. 

In this position, Ms. Monter will provide strategic administrative, budget, policy, and operations leadership on all matters related to graduate fellowships and awards across the University of Minnesota system, in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Graduate Education. 

"I am excited to support graduate students through fellowship offerings. I am also looking forward to continuing to collaborate with faculty and staff  to make fellowships more accessible and to have equitable review practices."

Marie brings to this position nearly seven years of administrative experience in higher education at the University of Minnesota, Hennepin Technical College in Minneapolis, and Harold Washington College in Chicago. Most recently, Marie served as Graduate Programs Specialist in the UMN College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), where she managed over $1.5 million in total funding for collegiate fellowships, program funding, and direct support to students across 13 different graduate programs. 

Marie currently serves on the Graduate School Advisory Board and the Senate Committee on Student Affairs. In addition, she has been instrumental in advancing the work of numerous teams and task forces in CFANS, including the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Strategic Planning Team, CFANS Leadership Council, and the Graduate and Research Policy & Review Committee.

Ms. Monter received her M.Ed. in Higher Education & Student Affairs from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
