Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship

What is the Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship? 

Dolores Zohrab Liebmann was the daughter of Krikor Zohrab, a prominent Armenian intellectual, writer and statesman. She supported students and educational and charitable organizations during her lifetime.

This fellowship includes a $18,000 annual stipend and tuition, renewable for up to three years of support.

Funding Interests

  • Graduate school fellowships in any recognized field of study in the humanities, social sciences or natural sciences (including law, medicine, engineering, architecture or other formal professional training).
  • Independent research or study projects which must be carried out entirely in the United States of America.
  • Publications focusing on Armenian studies, Armenian history and Armenian literature of the nineteenth century or earlier.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? 

Nominees for the Dolores Zohrab Liebmann fellowship must:

  • Have an outstanding undergraduate record (minimum 3.5 GPA).
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance in 2019-20 (for students who are not receiving full tuition support from current program).
  • Be pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree at the University of Minnesota.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.

Each nomination is uploaded by program staff, as a single PDF to the electronic nomination form, and must include in the following order:

  • 2020-2021 Liebmann Fund Application
  • Personal vitae or resume
  • Unofficial copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts
      • Unofficial University of Minnesota transcipts may be printed by the student.
      • IMPORTANT: Nominees selected for the national competition will be required to provide official certified copies of all transcripts before the national submission deadline, January 22, 2018.
  • Copy of graduate exam test scores
      • If not applicable, please include a statement that explains why it is not applicable.
  • Statement of Purpose
      • Up to three pages, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman type, with margins not less than one inch, with a 10-15 line abstract at the top of the page.
      • The abstract must explain, in layman's terms, the essence of your proposed topic of study or dissertation, the methodology of its treatment and its anticipated impact on your field of study.
      • The Statement of Purpose must consider the relationship between graduate level study and intended personal and/or professional goals.
  • Letters of Recommendation
      • Letters should be from at least two professors who have taught or worked closely with the nominee.
      • Letters should be sent to the program/department prior to the nomination deadline, for inclusion in the nomination packet.
  • Copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Copy of your Financial Aid Summary from the University of Minnesota
  • Tax Returns
      • Copies of Federal Income Tax Returns for the prior two years, including spouse's returns, if applicable.

Each program may submit one nomination. The DGS or designated program support staff will need to complete an electronic nomination form. The nomination is uploaded as a single PDF.

  • Create a Program Login to access the nomination form:
      • Create one username/password to upload the program nomination.
      • If more than one staff person will be viewing/updating the nomination (e.g., DGS and Program Coordinator), be sure to create a username/password that can be shared.
  • Create the Electronic Nomination:
      • Go to the electronic nomination form, complete the required fields, and upload a single PDF of the nomination.
      • Selecting the SAVE/UPDATE button or the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the screen will save your nomination information.
  • Update/Complete Nominations:
      • To update existing nomination, log in as "Returning User" and select the edit button at the left of the screen.
      • Selecting the SAVE/UPDATE button or the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the screen will save your nomination information. If you select the SUBMIT button, you will receive confirmation of receipt via email.
